Most adulterous area of Hong Kong revealed: Ashley Madison 'cheating map' shows surprising results

Surprisingly or not, Wan Chai - famed as Hong Kong's red light district - is the area of the city where men are most likely to have an affair, according to hacked data from cheating website Ashley Madison, while Yau Ma Tei is the city’s most monogamous place.

Analysis by the South China Morning Post of data released by hackers earlier this month showed which Hong Kong suburbs had the most billing addresses used to buy credits on the site.

The controversial company was designed specifically to assist its members in having an affair, charging men for credits which could then be used to message women and buy them online gifts.

About 2,600 Hong Kong men paid to join Ashley Madison during the two years it was active in Hong Kong, between 2013 and 2015, spending more than HK$3 million in total.

The firm had said hundreds of thousands of locals were flocking to the site when it first launched, and claimed in 2013 to have 12,000 members.

Overall, Wan Chai had the highest number of Hong Kong men with billing addresses registered to the Ashley Madison site - more than 50 individuals in total.

Close behind were the New Territories districts of Tseun Wan, Sha Tin, and Tuen Men, and Tseung Kawn O in Kowloon, all of whom recorded more than 40 members.

The business district of Central was close behind, rating sixth overall in Hong Kong. Central is popular with expats and high-earning professionals.

In comparison, some districts recorded tiny numbers of Ashley Madison members, with Yau Ma Tei, popular with lower income local families, and the more middle class expat area of Happy Valley, rating the lowest in town – each had just one resident paying for the service.

Diamond Hill, Stanley and Tai Koo were also among the city’s most monogamous suburbs, all registering below five accounts, as did Admiralty.
