Legendary Hong Kong directors return to Venice Film Festival

Hong Kong directors Ann Hui On-wah and Peter Chan Ho-sun will return to this year's Venice Film Festival with their latest screen offerings and stellar mainland casts.

Hong Kong directors Ann Hui On-wah and Peter Chan Ho-sun will return to this year's Venice Film Festival with their latest screen offerings and stellar mainland casts.

Chan's latest film , which stars mainland actress Vicki Zhao Wei and actor Huang Bo, will be showing in the out-of-competition section, it was announced yesterday.

It will also be showing at the Toronto International Film Festival in November under the special presentations section.

Chan's was selected as the closing film of the Venice festival - the world's oldest event of its kind - in 2005.

He will join Hui's return to the festival, which will close with the acclaimed director's a drama starring mainland actress Tang Wei and actor Feng Shaofeng.

The film is a biopic of Xiao Hong, one of the most prominent female writers in the 1930s.

Hui competed in Venice in 2011 with , and the film's leading actress Deanie Ip won the best actress award with her role as an , or domestic helper, who serves a family her whole life.
