The head of the Tourism Board has offered reassurances the government will fix the water leakage problems at the new Kai Tak cruise terminal "very soon".

Speaking after a media briefing yesterday on the annual Dragon Boat Carnival, Peter Lam Kin-ngok said the board met the government on Thursday to discuss the issue.

Water was discovered to be leaking in 104 spots throughout the main three-storey cruise terminal building when the city was hit by a severe rainstorm on Wednesday.

Lam said the leakage "makes us realise and solve the problem soon before it turns out to be a mess".

The cruise terminal is scheduled to open on June 12 as it receives the Mariner of the Seas, along with its 5,000 passengers and crew.

Meanwhile, the Tourism Board will bring "floating beasts" across Victoria Harbour when it jointly hosts the Dragon Boat Carnival with the Hong Kong China Dragon Boat Association from June 21 to 23.
