  • Police say construction tool has been used for poaching

An 11-year-old boy in Sichuan accidentally killed his nine-year-old female cousin while he was playing with a nail gun, police said on Sunday.

Officers in Yaan city responded to an emergency call that afternoon and found that the child’s life could not be saved, police said.

Investigators determined that the death was an accident. The boy’s grandfather was detained for possessing firearms.

The legal age of criminal responsibility in China is 14 years old.

In November, two men in Sichuan were held by police on suspicion of using nail guns to poach protected wildlife such as deer and argali sheep.

Gun ownership is strictly controlled in China, where the minimum punishment for illegally possessing firearms is three years in jail and the maximum punishment is the death penalty.
