A Chinese man and woman are both stable in hospital after he fell from a second-floor station walkway and landed on her as she ate at an outdoor food stall, mainland media reports.

The man, 43, from Guangxi province, identified only by his surname, Ou, fell from Guangzhou’s huge passenger rail and bus terminus at about 5pm on Thursday.

He broke the awning of the food stall and landed on top of the woman, who was eating outside, the Southern Metropolis News reported on Friday.

Both of them were hurt, but doctors said neither of them had suffered life-threatening injuries, the report said.

“The woman appeared conscious when she was carried into an ambulance on a stretcher,” he said, adding that the man had not responded when a passer-by gave him a shove.

The report said it was not known why the man fell from the terminus and the matter was still being investigated.
