A Chinese airline passenger is under investigation for allegedly assaulting a member of the cabin crew on a flight to Los Angeles, according to a newspaper report.

The man is accused of attacking and threatening a male flight attendant on a China Southern Airlines flight from Guangzhou to the United States earlier this month, the Guangzhou Daily reported.

The passenger, who was not named, hit and yelled at the attendant after claiming his seat had been taken.

He allegedly continued to harass the cabin crew member during the flight and was quoted as saying: “Los Angeles has a lot of cars. You’d better watch out for an accident.”

The plane’s captain alerted the authorities and ordered the crew to monitor the passenger during the rest of the flight.

After the plane landed in Los Angeles, police detained the man and interviewed crew members and other passengers.
