The Bengbu No. 1 Middle School has celebrated its link to a top science prize with a message on one of its electronic screens saying "warm congratulations to our school's son-in-law Eric Betzig for being awarded this year's Nobel Prize for chemistry", the news website Anhuinews.com reports. Betzig's wife is Ji Na, who graduated from the middle school in the 1990s. She went on to study at the University of Science and Technology of China in Hefei . The report said she met her husband while studying for a postgraduate degree in the United States.

The provincial government estimates that turnover from the robotic equipment industry in Wuhu , Maanshan and Hefei is expected to reach 20 billion yuan (HK$25 billion) by the end of next year, reports. The mainland's only robotics industry zone is in Wuhu. Experts said one area of focus for robotic equipment manufacturers was products to help care for the elderly. Firms would target cities such as Beijing and Shanghai where the population is rapidly greying.
