Magnitude 6.6 quake hits New Caledonia in the southwest Pacific

An earthquake of magnitude 6.6 struck in the Pacific Ocean 42 miles (67km) east-northeast of Tadine in New Caledonia’s Loyalty Islands, the US Geological Survey said on Sunday.

The quake, whose depth was 12.8 miles, occurred just hours after a 6.4 tremor 46 miles east of the Loyalty Islands.
