Panerai’s new Bronzo PAM 968 Submersible: watch as we get hands-on with it

It feels like the year of the Submersibles for Panerai, ever since it unveiled a long list at SIHH 2019 – from the new Submersible Marina Militare Carbotech PAM979 and PAM961 to the Submersible Luna Rossa PAM 1039. They’ve just added the Bronzo PAM 968 to the line-up.

The new 47mm timepiece, which retails for €16,000 (US$16,500), features bronze as a case material for the first time in the Submersible collection.

While this might not sound like thrilling news, bronze is a material that has excited me for a long time.

Bronze develops a patina over time that is particular to each watch, the design of the pattern reflecting the various environmental factors and the usual wear and tear that it undergoes.

Because each watch develops its own patina, each piece is different. A bronze case with a patina is sentimental, like a visual memento of your past.

In this timepiece, it is paired with a warm brown ceramic bezel. While I’ve never been a big fan of the brown colour used in watch dials or bezels, the more I saw this timepiece on my wrist, the more it grew on me.

This timepiece is driven by an automatic P.9010 manufacture calibre which comes with 72 hours of power reserve.

Watch the video below to find out more about the timepiece, and to see what it looks like close up.
