K-pop’s BigBang – what next for G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and former member Seungri? 6 things we know so far
Can you believe it’s been 14 years since BigBang debuted? Under YG Entertainment, the South Korean boy band was behind worldwide hits like Fantastic Baby (2012) and Bang Bang Bang (2016). Originally, the group consisted of five members: G-Dragon, T.O.P, Taeyang, Daesung and Seungri. Seungri became caught up in the Burning Sun nightclub scandal and retired from the entertainment industry in March 2019.
Before that, though, BigBang had already amassed millions of fans (called VIPs) around the globe. Since their debut on August 19, 2006, they have topped music charts and sold numerous concerts out.
All four of the current members have recently been discharged from mandatory military service. Naturally, the VIPs are eagerly awaiting their comeback. Sadly, the group’s much-anticipated return to California’s scene-defining Coachella music festival last April was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
What’s next for BigBang, as Taeyang and Daesung leave the military?
So, with that off the cards, what are they up to instead – and are they preparing for a comeback soon? Here’s what the world knows so far.
Daesung is still off the radar
Like many K-pop groups in between comebacks, the BigBang boys have been keeping a low profile, especially Daesung who doesn’t have official mainstream social media accounts. The others, however, have been updating their feeds actively.

G-Dragon and T.O.P seem to be immersed in the arts
They seem to be spending a lot of their days exploring or creating various art forms. For instance, T.O.P shared a clip of him painting a wall.
It looks like G-Dragon is spending his free time hopping from one gallery or graffiti-covered street to the next.
Taeyang has turned to his faith
The Eyes, Nose, Lips balladeer has been posting a lot of inspirational biblical verses on Instagram.

What’s great about these K-pop veterans is how they don’t skimp on cheering for their juniors in YG and for their other connections. For instance, T.O.P showed support for Blackpink through a funny video.
Meanwhile, Taeyang made sure to cheer up BigBang fans who protested against the lack of support for the group by their label. It seems like he and T.O.P have the same sense of humour.
G-Dragon, on the other hand, supported his brother-in-law Kim Min-joon’s new drama Was It Love? also starring Song Ji-hyo.

Is G-Dragon filming a new music video?
In one of his Instagram posts, the BigBang team leader shared a series of photos that look like he’s been in a filming set. Fans speculated this as a possible comeback.
What happens to Seungri now?
Currently, he is enlisted in the military. News1 recently reported that the ex-BigBang member Seungri will be tried on eight charges.
