Medical dramas have been such a hit concept in Korea, but never before have they been infused with music like Hospital Playlist. The drama revolves around five doctors who have been friends since medical school. After busy days in the surgery theatre, they unwind by playing songs as a band.

The drama has been getting high ratings since it premiered in March. Read on and get to know more about the cast.

1. All main cast members (who sing and play musical instruments in the show) had theatre backgrounds

Jo Jung-suk, Kim Dae-myung and Jeon Mi-do all started as theatre actors. Jung Kyung-ho was a theatre major, while Yoo Yeon-seok starred in theatrical productions in university. In one behind-the-scenes clip, Jo revealed that the five of them have promised to meet for practice even after the filming of this season.

2. They’re not in their forties yet or are they?

In the drama, the quintet entered medical school together in 1999 and are in their forties. In reality, they’re all in their late thirties. Jo and Kim were born in 1980, Jeon in 1982, Jung in 1983 and Yoo in 1984.

3. Of the five, only Yoo Yeon-seok has starred in a medical drama before

Yoo was in the widely popular series, Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim. He was also in General Hospital 2 and Midnight Hospital. Meanwhile, Jo has starred in several romantic and action-packed films and TV shows. Kim and Jung, on the other hand, were in various genres, including comedies and thrillers. 4. Actors from the Reply series made special appearances

In one interview game for The Swoon, Yoo shared that among all his past roles, he was most similar to Chil Bong in Reply 1994. Interestingly, the hit nostalgic dramas Reply 1994, 1997 and 1988 were by the same creators behind Hospital Playlist – director PD Shin Won-ho and writer Lee Woo-jung. Among the exciting Reply “crossovers” were Sung Dong-il (who starred in all the Reply series), Kim Sung-kyun (1994 and 1988), Go Ara (1994), Choi Moo-sung (1988), and Kim Sun-young (1988).
