K-drama heartthrobs Jung Woo-sung and Lee Jung-jae ooze charm on Hong Kong visit

South Korean actors Jung Woo-sung and Lee Jung-jae on a visit to Hong Kong where they attended Art Basel.

It’s no secret that Jung Woo-sung and Lee Jung-jae are hot commodities in South Korea and abroad. Household names in Korea and in K-drama and K-movie aficionados’ homes, the veteran actors are known for their talent on camera as well as for their charisma away from the cameras.

Before we meet the two men, who were flown to Hong Kong for Art Basel by luxury skincare brand La Prairie, I expect to be floored by the looks of those who consistently rank highly in surveys asking women in South Korea to rate their celebrity crushes.

I’m not floored, but I am charmed.

The two actors bring a certain je ne se quoi to the room – and not just because of their swarming entourage, all dressed in black.

Tall, soft-spoken, quick to flash their smiles – and passionate about their work – they make a charming pair.

And eloquent. When we ask them about Art Basel and their interest in art, Jung replies: “In a way, artists use their personal experiences and emotions as a motif when creating their artwork.”

“At the core, they are expressing the human. And how that [motif] becomes formed is [the artist’s] philosophy. The energy of the artwork becomes different based on how deep one’s fervour and desperation was poured into it … It’s important to look at how a motif or idea is expressed when looking at art.”

Another part of their charm is their good looks, in no doubt aided by La Prairie. So it is no surprise that the two men have a solid grasp of the importance of skincare – but emphasise that balance is key.

“[Skincare is] another way of expressing yourself,” says Jung. “Taking care of your skin is another way [of] taking the effort of how you present yourself to others.”

He cautions: “I don’t think you should overdo it, though you shouldn’t ignore it [completely] either.”

“We are actors so a lot of people might automatically assume we have a lot of interest in skincare. In reality, we don’t take care of our skin zealously. But we do take care to put on basic skincare that works for us,” says Lee, who touts the importance of working out regularly to maintain one’s health.
