Fendi is heading into the Year of the Dragon strong with a Lunar New Year collection that promises to be instantly legendary as fashion staples such as the famous Baguette bag meet beloved characters from the Japanese anime Pokémon.

Artistic directors Silvia Venturini Fendi and Kim Jones find a new muse in the “godfather of streetwear” Hiroshi Fujiwara and The Pokémon Company for this latest collaboration in the “Friends of Fendi” line-up.

The fun and funky Fendi x FRGMT x Pokémon collection marks a new chapter in the project’s creative vision in curating fashion friendships.

Fujiwara, who Jones called an “idol” and “an instigator of the Japanese club, youth fashion and streetwear scene”, per WWD, is best known for his trendy, collab-friendly label Fragment. Pieces from the Fendi x FRGMT collection reinterpret the classic Fendi logo printed in classic brown and tobacco shades, as well as a new, bolder colour: yellow.

The trapezoid proportions of the iconic Peekaboo bag and slim silhouette of the Baguette – both for men and women – also get a jolt of energy featuring cheeky characters like Dragonite and Dratini emblazoned on the front.

Talk about a statement bag for the Dragon year!

And in true Fendi fashion, the maison’s renowned leather artisans have created a rare new collector’s item as the crown jewel of the collaboration: a recreation of Dragonite in full leather, expertly realised over 30 hours of manual craftsmanship.

Notable Fendi minis such as the Baguette Pouch, Mini By The Way and Mini Mon Trésor all receive the Pokémon makeover as well, along with more practical items like the shopper bag and camera case.

That’s not all – Fendi has also partnered with the viral mobile game Pokémon Go to offer digital avatar items from the new collection.

And as an extra treat for Baguette fans, take note of a special release with an intricately-designed micro beaded embroidery of three Pokémon characters with the addition of a retro fringe.
