Celebrity offspring are always a hot topic in Hollywood tabloids, but few names draw as much attention as Lourdes “Lola” Leon. Born to pop icon Madonna and personal trainer and actor Carlos Leon, Lourdes has grown up under the intense glare of the public spotlight – yet, far from being overshadowed by her mother’s colossal fame, she’s found a way to emerge as a force in her own right.

From her early days as a gifted 12-year-old singing and playing piano on tour with her mum, Leon has more recently made forays into fashion and advocacy for environmental and feminist causes. Besides clearly inheriting Madonna’s love of music and performance, Leon shows a strong inclination towards fashion and design too.

Her personal style, a mix of edgy and vintage, often garners attention, making her a trendsetter in her own right. Notwithstanding the inevitable association with her mother’s legendary status, Leon has strived to establish her own identity. At 27, she is a model, dancer, pianist and designer.

Still, her mother is an important source of inspiration – including when it comes to her impeccable fashion sense. Here, we explore some of Madonna and Leon’s top mother-daughter style moments.

1. Like a virgin – again

In a video teaser for Madonna’s third greatest hits album, 2009’s Celebration, Leon channelled her mother’s iconic “Like a Virgin” look to striking effect. Dressed in a white wedding gown with a veil and donning bright red lipstick, the almost-13-year-old was the spitting image of Madonna in her youth.

2. The iconic cone bra

At the 2023 Grammy Awards, Leon dazzled in a nod to her mother’s iconic fashion legacy. She wore a striking cherry-red gown by Area, featuring a cone-bra bustier top encrusted with rhinestones.

The dress paid homage to the legendary Jean Paul Gaultier cone bra, first worn by Madonna during her groundbreaking Blond Ambition tour in 1990.

3. Burberry vibes

In 2022, the duo graced the launch event of Burberry’s Lola bag in Los Angeles, both dressed in head-to-toe black. Leon caught everyone’s attention in a sheer playsuit complemented by an oversized quilted jacket. Madonna, meanwhile, stayed true to her style in a chic black playsuit paired with fishnet tights, heeled boots and a plethora of silver necklaces.

At Tom Ford’s spring/summer 2023 runway show, Madonna and Leon showed their coordinated fashion sense. Madonna wore a silky black two-piece set with fingerless leather gloves and a lacy bodysuit, while Leon shone in a shimmering ankle-length dress, accented with a cross pendant necklace and strappy sandals.

5. The Nine premiere in NYC

Back in 2009, Madonna and Lourdes turned heads at the Nine premiere in New York City, the then 13-year-old so resembling her famous mum that onlookers did a double take. Looking every bit the mini pop star, Leon wowed in a lace minidress with Dr Martens, a black leather jacket, motorcycle gloves and fishnet tights.

6. The Met Gala after-party

The duo looked chic again in all black at Lady Gaga’s Met Gala after-party in 2015. The pop icon paired tiny leather shorts with fishnet tights and a striking padded leather jacket adorned with dollar signs. Meanwhile, then 18-year-old Lourdes chose a stylish strappy Moschino top complemented by similar black shorts. The mother and daughter completed their looks with eye-catching gold and silver jewellery.
