STYLE Edit: Gucci’s Hong Kong Wall Art highlights luxury Italian fashion brand’s Pre-Fall 2019 campaign

Gucci’s Art Wall mural in Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong, features the ruins of the 7th century BC temples of Selinunte in Sicily, which was the setting for the luxury Italian fashion brand’s Pre-Fall 2019 campaign.

Next time you find yourself on D’Aguilar Street in Lan Kwai Fong Central, Hong Kong, look up from across Stormies bar, or just above the 7-Eleven convenience store on the main strip, and you will be see Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele’s latest effusion of exuberant eccentricity.

Alessandro Michele captures ancient Rome in Gucci show

Gucci’s Art Wall in Hong Kong’s Lan Kwai Fong,

A contemporary fresco for the chicest counterculture in the world is now on display on the facade of the building.

The Art Wall is dedicated to Gucci’s Pre-Fall 2019 campaign and – as peculiar as it may sound – the 7th century BC temples of Selinunte in Sicily.

STYLE Edit: Who is Zumi Rosow, the Gucci muse who inspired the Gucci Zumi bag?

Gucci calls this creative process the “magpie method of cultural juxtaposition” and if anyone can transform into an inspired crow for the counterculture, I suppose it’s Michele.

The Pre-Fall campaign was shot at the Selinunte archaeological Park, which harks back to the once-heterogenous community and glorious symposium in the agora, or ancient Greek marketplace.

Citizens of the Greek colony on the island of Sicily would eat, drink, discuss poetry and politics in the public, open arena.

It seems no coincidence that Gucci has situated the Art Wall above Hong Kong’s “modern day symposium”, just outside “Club 7-Eleven”, as it is affectionately known.

The convenience store is considered a favourite spot for young partygoers in Lan Kwai Fong.

Gucci has also created an Art Wall mural in Shanghai.

A series of Gucci Pre-Fall Art Walls have been strategically placed around the world.

The first mural debuted in Mexico City, at the Avenida de Michoacan in the bohemian La Condesa area.

Other Art Walls can be found on Lafayette Street in Manhattan's SoHo, in New York; in Milan’s Largo la Foppa in the Corso Garibaldi district; and in Shanghai’s Jingan District at Fengsheng Li mall, which is home to numerous bars, restaurants and shops.
