Meet Sabrina Carpenter, who starred in a racy campaign for Kim Kardashian’s Skims: the former Disney darling opened for Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour – but is their friendship a diss against Olivia Rodrigo?
Starlet Sabrina Carpenter appears to be growing out of her Disney darling image and embracing her sexuality.
Here’s what we know about the showbiz world’s latest “It” girl.
Sabrina Carpenter starred on the Disney Channel
While Carpenter, 24, has quite a few acting credits to her name, she is best known for her lead roles on the Disney Channel, including in the comedy TV series Girl Meets World and the 2016 adventure comedy film Adventures in Babysitting.

Aside from her success as a Disney darling, the young starlet also appeared in the 2019 Netflix original movie Tall Girl, and its sequel in 2022. The multifaceted actress also starred in and was an executive producer for the 2020 dance comedy film Work It.
She has always wanted to perform
While many people Carpenter’s age may still be finding their way in life, the “Feather” singer knew from a very early age that she was destined for the stage. Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Carpenter was home-schooled and began vocal training at just six years old.
“I know a lot of people don’t know what they want to do when they’re that young, but I had a pretty good idea, and my heart was pretty much set on it,” Carpenter said in a February interview with Prestige.
By 2020, the songstress already had four albums under her belt. However, her 2022 album Emails I Can’t Send – featuring the hit songs “Nonsense” and “Feather” – is what catapulted her to the status of pop culture icon.

However, fans noticed that the two artists’ relationship soured after Rodrigo was forced to credit Swift and her co-writers – and relinquish 50 per cent of her royalties – on Rodrigo’s song “Deja Vu” for its passing resemblance to Swift’s “Cruel Summer”. Swift’s subsequent closeness with Rodrigo’s “nemesis”, Carpenter, seemed to further cement the rift.

She isn’t afraid of controversy
Carpenter came under fire recently, after she released the music video for her song “Feather” last Halloween.
The video – which, at the time of writing, has racked up over 43 million views on YouTube – was filmed in a Catholic church in Brooklyn, New York City, and features Carpenter dancing in a short black tulle dress with a veil against the backdrop of an altar decorated with pastel-coloured coffins.
The Diocese of Brooklyn said it was “appalled” by the video, and the priest who permitted its shooting was stripped of his administrative duties, per The New York Times.

Staying true to her coquettish persona, Carpenter brushed off the controversy, stating in a November 2023 interview with Variety that permission to film inside the church had been granted in advance. “And Jesus was a carpenter,” she added, in a cheeky reference to her own name.
“I think people think I’m just obnoxiously horny,” she said in a March interview with Cosmopolitan. “In reality, writing [the outros] comes from the ability to not be fearful of your sexuality, as opposed to just not being able to put it down.”
