If the question “where is Wendy Williams” has been on your mind in recent months, you can prepare to have that query answered very soon. Lifetime recently released the official trailer for its two-part documentary of the same name, which will detail the trials and tribulations of the controversial former TV host after she suddenly “disappeared” from the limelight two years ago.

The trailer, which quickly garnered over half a million views in its first week, shows the life and struggles of the contentious presenter in recent years.

“I really want to be back on television,” she says in the trailer, which also features her son, Kevin Hunter Jr. It continues with Williams, now 59, sharing details about her financial struggles. “I have no money, and I’m gonna tell you something,” she says, while looking into the camera. “If it happens to me, it could happen to you.”

In a recent interview with People magazine on Wednesday, her family broke their silence by talking about how alcohol played a large part in her downward spiral. “We’ve all seen the images over the last few months – and, really, few years – of what has seemed like a spiral for my aunt,” Williams’ niece Alex Finnie told the publication. “It was shocking and heartbreaking to see her in this state.”

Williams started her career in radio in the late 1980s, and rose to fame in the early 2000s with her popular radio show The Wendy Williams Experience, which would segue into daytime television in 2008 with The Wendy Williams Show.

Here’s what you need to know about Wendy Williams ahead of the documentary’s release on February 24.

As hinted at in the documentary’s trailer, it appears Williams is struggling financially, though why exactly is still unclear. As reported by TMZ, Williams was placed under financial guardianship in 2022 after Wells Fargo bank claimed she was a “victim of undue influence and financial exploitation”, so some fan blogs are speculating that this is the most likely reason – or at least one of the reasons – for her financial woes.
