As the Super Bowl quickly approaches, taking place on February 11, the excitement for Usher’s halftime show is palpable.

On January 12, Apple Music released the trailer for his performance, which featured everyone from LeBron James to BTS’ Jungkook jamming along to his best known song, “Yeah”.

As we’ve learned from Jennifer Lopez’ Halftime documentary, or Rihanna’s comments about the toll the show took on her body, prepping for one of the biggest performances in the world is no joke.

So who’s got Usher’s back through all his hard work?

Here’s what you need to know about the Grammy award-winning singer’s girlfriend and four children, who he’s dubbed his “support system”, per People.

Who is Usher dating?

Usher, aka Usher Raymond IV, is dating music executive Jennifer “Jenn” Goicoechea. The pair reportedly began dating around October 2019 – or at least that’s when the rest of the world knew, after they were reportedly spotted kissing backstage at the Hollywood Bowl.

Goicoechea is senior vice-president of A&R at Epic Records, which is owned by entertainment behemoth Sony. A&R stands for “artists and repertoire” – in other words, she heads up talent scouting and managing the musicians.

Usher has called Goicoechea his “best friend”, telling People that thanks to her he is “able to be passionate about what I do and have an incredible partner to work through some of the harder times” with.

The pair regularly make sweet Instagram posts for each other’s birthdays, with Goicoechea calling Usher her “homie, lover, friend” last year, adding, “Don’t nobody have heart like you.”

How many children does Usher have?

Usher has four children by two different mothers. He has two teenage sons – Usher “Cinco” V, 16, and Naviyd Ely, 15 – with his ex-wife Tameka Foster, and a daughter and son – Sovereign Bo, three, and Sire Castrello, two – with Goicoechea, who were both born during the pandemic.

In 2008, Usher told Essence he was keen to give his first son everything his own father hadn’t, saying he’d missed out on “knowing that I was accepted. That I mattered”. Usher’s father was addicted to crack cocaine and left his mum when Usher was still a baby.

Cinco was born in November 2007 to Usher’s then wife, Foster. Usher filed for divorce in 2009.

Then, in 2013, tragedy struck when a then-five-year-old Cinco almost drowned in the singer’s swimming pool. His arm got stuck in a drain while he was trying to retrieve a toy. Two workers at the property managed to rescued Cinco and perform CPR, saving his life, per The Guardian.

Now a strapping 16-year-old, Cinco is certainly spoiled by his famous dad. He was gifted a US$1,980 Gucci backpack for his birthday two years ago, for a start, reported British media.

Will Usher’s second son follow in his footsteps?

A year after Cinco was born, Foster gave birth to their second son, Naviyd Ely – and if the singer is to be believed, it’s Naviyd who’s most like him when it comes to a love of entertainment.

“My silent partner, creative director, always full of ideas,” Usher wrote in an Insta shout-out to his son in 2021, later telling talk show host Tamron Hall that Naviyd regularly critiques his performances. “He’s like, ‘You missed this thing. You didn’t do this thing.’ And I’m like, ‘Yeah, that’s the point. It’s not supposed to be the same every night.”

Usher announced Goicoechea’s pregnancy on Good Morning America

Per Cosmopolitan, there was a pregnancy photo set to be released to announce the news – but Usher jumped the gun and made the revelation early. He told host Ryan Seacrest, “I really wanted to make sure that people understood how excited I was about this moment.”

The couple welcomed daughter Sovereign Bo not long after, and Usher admitted to Extra that she was “definitely ruling the household”.

In true Usher baby mama style, it was barely a year before Goicoechea gave birth to their second child, Sire Castrello.
