The Cannes Film Festival 2022’s best red carpet looks so far, from Tom Cruise’s dapper Armani suit at the Top Gun: Maverick premiere, to Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Deepika Padukone’s Indian designer outfits
The 75th Cannes Film Festival returned to the South of France on May 18. Welcoming acclaimed directors and actors along with their film crews from across the globe, this year’s celebration saw some highly anticipated projects get their moment in the spotlight. From Tom Cruise’s highly anticipated film Top Gun: Maverick, to Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae’s directorial debutHunt.
The red carpet also saw several jaw-dropping couture gowns from the likes of Giorgio Armani, Dior, Louis Vuitton and Fendi, as well as Indian designer Sabyasachi – worn by actress Deepika Padukone. The high-octane fashion was lifted even further by glitzy high jewellery from several celebrated maisons: Anne Hathaway’s magnificent Bulgari Mediterranean Reverie necklace for one, which featured a statement-making 107,15-carat sapphire; and Julia Roberts’ masterpiece yellow diamond necklace from Chopard, to name a few.

Anne Hathaway – who recently played Rebekah Neumann in Apple TV+’s WeCrashed – looked flawless in a bespoke couture gown by Armani Privé, but kept the colour and silhouette simple to allow her Bulgari necklace to speak for itself.
Urvashi Rautela
Indian actress and one-time Miss Universe contender Urvashi Rautela made a magnificent Cannes debut in a voluminous white ruffled creation by Tony Ward.
Elle Fanning
Meanwhile, star of The GreatElle Fanning looked ethereal and fairy-like in a gorgeous Armani Privé gown.
Julianne Moore
Julianne Moore opted for classic elegance with a Bottega Veneta dress that had simple knotted straps and voluminous skirt, adding a splash of colour thanks to Bulgari’s Tribute to Paris necklace.
Rebecca Hall
Resurrection’s Rebecca Hall donned a black Gucci lurex and chiffon plissé gown embellished with gold and silver sequin rays. The dress was given a suitably modern twist thanks to its cut outs and cape sleeves.
American actress Jennifer Connelly stunned in a shoulder-baring metallic silver thread jacquard gown, a bespoke design from Louis Vuitton.
Deepika Padukone
One of the festival’s jury members this year was Indian actress Deepika Padukone, who wore an exquisite, hand-embroidered sari by one of her home country’s most celebrated designers, Sabyasachi Mukherjee.
Later, the actress changed into a scarlet red Louis Vuitton gown with leather, satin and a peplum waist.
Lashana Lynch
No stranger to glamorous locations after appearing in the latest Bond film No Time To Die, Lashana Lynch turned the elegance all the way up to 10 in a white Fendi Couture gown.
Kat Graham
Swiss-born American actress Kat Graham almost seemed to disappear into the red carpet, since her gorgeous tulle gown from Dior Haute Couture matched its shade a little too well.
Julia Roberts
Veteran actress Julia Roberts chose to go a different route from the other female celebrities, sporting a black tailored jumpsuit in wool gaberdine complete with tail and navy satin lapels, a custom made ensemble by Louis Vuitton.
It was clear that Indian actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan fully understood the assignment when she appeared on the red carpet in a rather spectacular pale pink structural design by Indian designer Gaurav Gupta.

But what about the fellas? Man of the hour Tom Cruise returned to Cannes with new film Top Gun: Maverick, looking dapper in a sleek Giorgio Armani suit.
Lee Jung-jae
A day later, Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae pulled off the opposite look in a refreshing white ensemble that seemed a perfect fit for the French Riviera.
Rose Bertram
Belgian model Rose Bertram pulled off a Hamda Al Fahim dress that had delicate beaded fringing when she arrived for the screening of Armageddon Time on day two of the festival.
Alessandra Ambrosio
One of the more daring gowns of the night was that worn by Brazilian Victoria’s Secret supermodel Alessandra Ambrosio, who sported an inventive Stéphane Rolland couture dress.
