FARE Modern Middle Eastern inspired by Bedouin tribes of North Africa.

AMBIENCE Hidden away in the hipster neighbourhood around Gough Street, Bedu is instantly identifiable thanks to the mural outside. Inside, the service is superb – staff are friendly and willing to introduce dishes and the concept behind Bedu’s food.

COST Dishes range from around HK$50 to HK$120 for non-meat dishes.

WHO TO BRING Friends and family with different dietary requirements – including vegans – who would just like to have a chill-out meal together.

TURN-ONS The dishes are made to be shared, which means there is a lot for adventurous diners to try. If you are a vegan, let the waiter know – some recommended dishes can be adjusted, such as the charred broccoli and crispy kale with chilli (it usually comes with zhoug labneh for non-vegans). We also tried falafel with hummus, pickles, salad and tahini, and enjoyed the hummus and flat bread. Vegan desserts include watermelon with almonds and mint sorbet.

TURN-OFFS Space is limited. When it is busy, diners have to free up the tables after an hour.

DRINKS There is a good selection of Lebanese and international wines and beers. The signature cocktails are worth trying, such as The Oasis, made with gin, lemongrass syrup, basil, lime and soda water.
