The shopper: Free People

Music-festival-goers will be pleased to know that American brand Free People has just opened its first space in Hong Kong inside Lab Concept in Queensway Plaza. The label is owned by Urbn Inc, which also owns US-based retailer Urban Outfitters.

Launched in 1984, Free People has become a staple with free-spirited fashionistas looking for clothes that embody the boho-chic lifestyle (which is why you'll spot it at festivals like Coachella).

A boho look from Free People’s spring-summer 2014 collection.
The brand has been available at Lab since last year and finally upgraded to its own specially designed shop-in-shop.

In terms of design, the space embraces Free People's sense of wanderlust and is decorated with finds one would pick up on exotic travels, from wooden African tables and Moroccan quilted stools to hand-carved mirrors and patchwork backdrops. Fairy lights on the ceiling add to the earthy vibe.

Currently on the racks is the spring-summer 2014 collection. It's romantic yet modern, with vintage-inspired styles that include off-the-shoulder eyelet maxi dresses, crochet jackets and embroidered tunics. It's all about details with plenty of lace, printing, beading and embroideries.

Also look out for the brand's must-have classics, including summer dresses, vegan leather jackets and soft denim. Prices start around HK$790 for an embellished tank to HK$2,800 for an embroidered maxi dress.
