Our lives may have been turned upside down this year because of the global Covid-19 pandemic, but K-pop stars have kept releasing new material, including songs that touch on living in the coronavirus era.

From BTS to Twice and SuperM, here’s a look at some of the K-pop songs that deal with the strange state of life in 2020.

1. Tomorrow X Together: We Lost the Summer

In this sprightly tune from TXT’s latest EP, “Minisode1: Blue Hour”, out this week, the members sing about the lost summer of 2020, bemoaning the state of the world that kept them from enjoying the season and the missed opportunities for summer love.

“The cafe that I went to has now closed [and how] / I hide my sigh behind this stuffy mask [remaining here] / I hate my face without expression [you know],” members Taehyun and Soobin sing on the track.

2. Twice: Behind the Mask

Twice album “Eyes Wide Open”, also newly released this week, features this introspective, slinky synth-pop song in which members of the nine-strong group sing about what is Behind the Mask.

“Behind the mask / Yeah, who, yeah / I wonder if you’re smiling / Who, yeah woo, yeah / I wonder if you’re crying / Let me ask in the mask / I’m lonely but if you’re trying”, members Jeongyeon, Tzuyu, Chaeyoung and Dahyun sing on the track.

3. SuperM: Together at Home

One-upping much of the rest of the artists on this list, SuperM went full-blown conceptual album on their September release “Super One”, which features track after track, including Together at Home, that deals with living with the coronavirus.

“Love your taste in pyjamas / Wake your bored self up across the screen / Worlds become one through excitement / Wherever you are you, I, we are all friends ” member Kai sings on the track.

4. Mamamoo: Dingga

In Dingga, a track taken from their upcoming EP, “Travel”, about wanting to go out and spend time with their friends, the Mamamoo members express regret over the lost year.

“Living comfortably in the corner of this room / Since some time the distance with society has become quite far – Wheein, Dingga”, they sing.

5. BTS: Dynamite

Although Dynamite does not directly reference the coronavirus experience, BTS’ bright August single was an attempt to bring some comfort to their listeners across the globe.

“This is getting heavy, can you hear the bass boom? I’m ready / Life is sweet as honey, yeah, this beat cha-ching like money, huh”, BTS member Suga sings on the track.
