I'd normally shy away from introducing my toddlers to ghosts and ghouls, but Ocean Park's promise of more family fun activities at its Halloween Fest have convinced me to give it a whirl.

The park's Halloween extravaganza usually features a number of fright houses, themed decorations and scary characters walking about.

Following the success of last year's day-and-night Halloween Fest, in an attempt to attract more families, this year Ocean Park launched two attractions for younger children during the day which transform into more frightening versions at night.

The Halloween-themed decor went down well with my children. We arrived in the late afternoon when the park was being transformed, and the kids encountered some frightening characters in the train up to the upper area of the park called The Summit.

They soon grew accustomed to their eerie presence. The characters focused on startling teens and steered clear of children and older folks, unless they were requested to pose for a photo.

Most of the Halloween houses are on The Summit, so it involves a bit of walking to get to them.

The Forest of Legends is a Chinese fairyland with mysterious characters lurking in the caves and bamboo shrubs. The children could pick up a ghost journal and collect seals at different junctures.
